Fleet Admiral William Frederick "Bill" Halsey, Jr. (30 October 1882 CE – 16 August 1959 CE) was an officer of the United States Navy. He commanded the forces in the South Pacific during the early stages of the Pacific War against Japan. Later he was commander of the U.S. Third Fleet.
