New Tradition was a former waystation in the southeastern part of the Valley of the Centipede which grew to a town in the 12th century. The settlement, which had been used for those travelling to and from the valley to have a pause for rest, arose from the philosophical schism that began to divide the Moshi family after the death of Amaterasu, and it began to be inhabited by those who had a more progressive approach to living their lives and interacting with the rest of Rokugan. This lead to the settlement to become known as New Tradition.
