The 1976 Presidential election was contested on November _, 1976 to elect a President of the United States, held concurrently with elections to the full U.S. House of Representatives and 22 seats of the United States Senate. Incumbent Socialist President Hubert H. Humphrey was term-limited and thus unable to seek the nomination once more. After a grueling primary against Vice President Ed Muskie of Maine, the Socialists nominated moderate Washington Senator Henry M. Jackson for the Presidency.
