The falanouc (PHAL-uh-nook) is extremely rare and solitary, so not much is currently known about its behaviors. The falanouc lives in the lowland rainforests of Madagascar where it feeds on insects, primarily earthworms. They defend large territories that are marked using special scent glands. The falanouc is considered endangered due to human activity and predation by domestic dogs.
