Rodan is a kaiju that first appeared in the 1956 Toho film of the same name. He is a colossal pterosaur who originally dwelt underground and was mutated from exposure to radiation. After the residents of a small mining village discovered the eggs of Meganulon, a type of large prehistoric insect, the eggs hatched, releasing the creatures. Rodan, who was their natural predator, appeared soon after from its eons-long slumber. A second Rodan appeared as well, however it was killed by the Japanese Self Defense Forces.
