The original Xentryl I had been a short range recon vessel which saw very little actual use within the Kartanin Warfleet, since most of its tasks were already performed admirably by Nurian Explorers. When the Warfleet began modernizing its inventory, a new use was eventually devised for the Xentryl II: a raiding starfighter.
