Mammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women. Quality mammography can help detect breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages – when it is too small to be felt or detected by any other method. These devices include a high frequency or very low constant potential x-ray generator (usually from 20 to 35kV), an automatic exposure control, filters, a collimator, patient positioning features (e.g. compression devices) and an image recording system.
