The Ripple Land is section of countryside located outside the Land of Oz. It must be crossed to enter the country of the Growleywogs. The Ripple Land is a succession of hills and valleys which change places constantly by rippling. While one is climbing a hill it may sink down and become a valley, and while one is descending into a valley it may rise up and carry one to the top of a hill. (The Emerald City of Oz)
