By 1911 he had his own business as a retail grocer in Battersea. Mayor of Hammersmith 1926-29. Freeman of Hammersmith. Municipal Reform Party member of the London County Council elected 1925 1928 1931 1934 1937-46 Hammersmith South. Chairman of the London and Home Counties Joint Electricity Authority from 1933.
