The army was a proposed fighting force to be composed of survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Jack Shephard wanted to form an army to combat the Others and raised the possibility with Ana Lucia Cortez, asking her how long it would take to train one. ("The Hunting Party") Although no large-scale army was formed, Michael eventually led Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley to ostensibly go to "war" with the Others. ("Live Together, Die Alone, Part 1") There was much reluctance among the survivors to join an army, though there was more interest when Sun was mysteriously attacked. Ana Lucia told Jack that the big guy behind Sayid, and Steve showed interest in joining the army. ("The Long Con")
