The California State Assembly was the lower house of the legislature of the US state of California. An 1986 issue of the San Francisco Register noted that in the State Assembly an education bill met with overwhelming support and was subsequently approved. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home) The article (or at least the legible parts) just mentioned a "State Assembly", which is assumed to be that of California because the paper was a local California paper.
