Malcolm Thompson (born 1949) appeared in Coronation Street in September 1974 playing Sammo, a football hooligan who with his pals terrorised the street. Born in Yorkshire, he began his career in weekly rep and theatre companies, appearing at The Bristol Old Vic, The Mermaid Theatre Company and London's West End. Two years after appearing in Coronation Street, he moved to Australia where he appeared in the top-rated soap opera Number 96 and the entire run of the serial The Restless Years from 1977 to 1981 as well as Chopper Squad and Kingswood Country.
