A bastard is a person whose parents at the time of their birth were not married. Bastards are seen as being born from lust or deceit, which sometimes leads to disdain and shame from their parentage or public opinion. Bastards are sometimes sent away or unrecognized but it isn't uncommon for a lord to acknowledge their bastards.
