The Galactic Empire was a monarchy government led by Galactic Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith and Commander of the Imperial Military. The Empire formed in 19 BBY, succeeding the Galactic Republic. They were in the Galactic Civil War and fought against the Rebel Alliance and other galactic resistance movements, and were victorious. The Empire also saw the biggest military buildup in history.
