The regiment's First Battalion was at one point commanded by Lieutenant Commander Yen Duursema, a Togruta officer and musician who went on to form the Marine Corps Band, drawing its first members from her unit. During the Corps' reorganization, the regiment was pared down and reformed as the 5th Marine Battalion.
