Comanche County is a county located in Southwest Oklahoma. According to the U.S. Census the county population was 114,996 in 2000. The county seat is Lawton, Oklahoma. Ft. Sill, made famous as a cavalry base during the wars against the Comanche and Kiowa in the 1870s, is located in Comanche County. The fort was constructed February 1869, three miles from the Comanche-Kiowa Agency. Later the fort was used as a prison of war camp in 1894 for Geronimo and 341 other Chiricahua Apache, and more recently for military prisoners who opposed the war in Iraq like Camilo Mejia.
