Roger Michael William Brady (born October 14, 1940) was an English politician and diplomat, serving as a Labour MP from 1981 until his retirement in 2008, a service of 27 years. Brady is best known as serving as the Foreign Minister in John Oliver's government from 1987 until 1990, and as the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Labour Party from 1990 until 1998, standing in opposition to John Cleese and the Conservatives before standing down that January in favor of Parliament freshman John Lennon. Brady is often referred to as the "Last Champion of Old Labour," as the party shifted sharply to the center during 1998 and early 1999 under Lennon's leadership, and the anti-Lennonites saw limited success in the six years of Conservative control 2005-2011.
