Jesus Maroto was a drug dealer that Metro-Dade Vice Detective James "Sonny" Crockett busted in 1984, and received an eight-year term. At the time of his arrest, Maroto took $3 million from his former employer, Mario Fuente, and held on to it for 18 months, when he called Crockett to his prison to see him, tells Crockett he brought him up for "Payback!", kissed him, then drew a primitive one-shot gun, which he used on himself, committing suicide, but not before completing his master plan, which was to make Crockett the target of Fuente's revenge (while DEA agent Kevin Cates had the money).
