Ryota is a boy from Yamagakure 2. His life was dramatically changed when he and many others were captured as Prisoners of War by the Sons of Darkness. The SoDs took many members of the Uchiha Clan II as well as some from the Konoha clans of the Nara and Hyuga. He was taken to Isla Matanceros to be a captive and lab rat for the SoDs for two years of his life. However, it was during his captivity that he met Shikami Nara, who had also been taken captive from his own village. The two were inmates in different prison camps yet they found a way to slip away from their work every evening to meet and keep each other company.
