Adam is an employee of St. Francis Hospital in Iowa, and a friend of Tom Brennan. Tom calls him to ask for some time on Diane Jansen's MRI, Tom does this as a favour for Kate who wanted to see her mother one last time, and Tom was going to sneak Kate inside.
