Protean bars give half the tool experience to Augmented crystal hammers compared to skilling with regular materials. Augmented crystal hammers retain the passive effect of the unaugmented crystal hammer: an extra 5% chance of saving a bar when Smithing an item with at least three bars, if wasteless smithing has been unlocked.
