The frontal plane is a vertical plane running from side to side that divides the body or any of its parts into anterior and posterior (or dorsal and ventral) parts. The primary movements in the frontal plane are abduction (movement which takes any part of the body away from the midline, i.e. lateral arm raises), and adduction (movement which takes any part of the body toward the midline of the body, i.e. cable crossovers). Also called the coronal plane.
