An optronic emitter was a piece of optronic technology used in the operations center of Deep Space 9. They produced a low humming noise. In 2373, Miles O'Brien theorized that it might have been the humming noise of the optronic emitters that made Kirayoshi fall asleep in the pit. (DS9: "Business as Usual")
