Drew was a sonar operator on the U.S attack sub, the U.S.S. Philadelphia who was murdered by eco-terrorist Sean Travis who later stole his identity in an attempt to launch a sarin gas against the Navy in revenge for the deaths of numerous whales who were dying due to the Navy's sonar technology that was presumably confusing the whales. Drew suffered a fractured skull which killed him instantly. In an attempt to cover his tracks, Travis placed the body in a barrel of acid which dissolved it so much that once Drew's body was uncovered, it was almost unrecognizable.
