Robert Verloren was the husband of Muriel Verloren and the father of Rebecca Verloren, and a resident of Chatsworth in Los Angeles. He was a chef who owned and operated the Island House Grill. After the murder of his daughter, he and his wife divorced, and he descended into alcoholism. He eventually recovered, becoming a born-again Christian and taking a job as the morning cook at the Metro Shelter soup kitchen.
