The oN-Line System ("NLS") was a multi-year project at the Stanford Research Intitute (later just SRI) to create to tools to "augment" human intelllectual capabilities. It was managed by Douglas Englebart and it was inspired by the now famous article in Atlantic Monthly "As We May Think". One of the major spin-offs of NLS was the mouse.
