Judgement's Retreat was a courtyard enclosed by the Imperial Palace at Toshi Ranbo and its various wings, terraces and outbuildings, reserved for the most solemn matters of Honor. Both duels and seppuku happened there, beneath a gallery from which the Empress and her closest advisers might bear witness.
