Germany, officially the Federal Republic of Germany (German: Bundesrepublik Deutschland) is a nation located in Central Europe. Comprised of sixteen federated states, Germany is home to a population of over 80.8 million, ranking it seventeenth-largest in the world by population. A nation entwined in the earliest roots of European history, Germany has been home to the Visigoths who ended Roman rule, countless princes and kings throughout the Middle Ages, and the infamous Nazis of World War II. The capital of Berlin is also the nation's largest city, itself home to over 3 million inhabitants, and is also the second-largest city in the European Union.
