Tom Hauptman is a former minister who came into Callahan's Place ostensibly to rob it. Tom is a time-traveler "the hard way.". He and his wife Mary were imprisoned in a Central American prison after a revolution and left there forgotten for 10 years. His wife dies during the imprisonment and after Tom is release he suffers from future shock at all the changes. He attempts to rob Callahan's Place with an unknowingly unloaded gun and is helped by the patrons to accept his pain. Mike Callahan then hires him as a bartender.
