The John Chard Decoration was a South African military medal that was in use from 1952 to 2003. It was awarded to members of the Citizen Force who completed twenty years qualifying service, provided they had already earned the John Chard Medal (for ten or twelve years service). The decoration has been superseded by the Medalje vir Troue Diens and the Emblem for Reserve Force Service. The decoration was named after John Rouse Merriott Chard, the lieutenant in command of the supply depot at Rorke's Drift that was attacked by Zulus in January 1879.
