The 'First Speaker heads the council of speakers who lead the Second Foundation. To obtain speaker status, initiates must contribute to the Seldon Plan. The speakers are scholars on post-imperial Trantor, all experts in Mentalics. They keep the Seldon Plan on track using psychohistory and their mentalic abilities when necessary. One speaker, Stor Gendibal, begins to suspect that the Seldon Plan may be under the influence of those with superior mentalic and psychohistorical abilities. This forms the basis for one of Foundation's Edge's subplots.
