IGN's review considers Resident Evil: Damnation to be intended entirely as both fan service in showing Ada Wong and Leon S. Kennedy, and a marketing tool for the then-upcoming Resident Evil 6 which would feature both. The plot has been described as unsuitable for newcomers as well as being slow. IGN criticised the middle act of the film for bringing what should be an 85-minute film to 100 in length unnecessarily, though accepts it as "interesting" with fun and some scary moments.
