Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kaku -Outbreak- (ひぐらしのなく頃に拡～アウトブレイク～, When the Cicadas Cry Expanded -Outbreak-) is the name of the new OVA project for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. It was confirmed on December 15, 2012, began airing on August 15, 2013. The OVA will follow the short story of Higurashi Outbreak, which was included in the soundtrack of Higurashi Daybreak and was written by Ryukishi07. The project is being helmed by Toshifumi Kawase, the series script supervisor of the previous Higurashi anime projects and the director of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei.
