Sonic the Hedgehog visited the Zone to stop the Pump polluting all of Mobius. Since the machine was located out into the ocean, Sonic used an oil slide to gain momentum and easily made it the contraption. Although he was ambushed by two Octus Badniks on the Pump's roof, Sonic used them to launch a Spin Attack into the wall of the Pump, smashing his way through. However, upon pulling a lever that stopped the machine from pumping oil, a screen activated with Doctor Robotnik infoming the heroes that the Pump was merely a distraction for a bomb elsewhere in the Zone. On hearing this, Sonic burst out of the Pump and managed to land on the solid ground with just one leap.
