The Battle of Ningpo was fought between British and Chinese forces in Ningpo, China, on 10 March 1842 during the First Opium War. The Chinese army was led by the Chinese Emperor's cousin. The British tricked the Chinese into thinking the city was deserted. The Chinese attackers rushed into the city, only to find mines laid in the streets. The Chinese attackers retreated as a result, but were ambushed by the British. It was a decisive victory for the British.
