Benjamin Finney was a Starfleet Academy instructor in the early 2250s and later Fleet staff officer. As a lieutenant commander, he was assigned as records officer onboard the USS Enterprise in 2267 until his presumed death in an ion storm. (TOS: "Court Martial") His secondary duties included serving as an orientation and training officer for officers newly assigned to the ship.
