It was originally an open air rink and was enclosed in 1964. The arena had a maximum capacity of 10,500 spectators at that point. The roof was damaged in a storm on April 4, 1987, and required 1 million marks of repairs to fix. The rink was extensively remodeled in 1994 and had its capacity reduced to 6,929.
