The 1977–78 Chicago Black Hawks season was the Hawks' fifty-second season in the NHL, and the club was coming off a 26-43-11 record, earning 63 points, which was their lowest total since the 1957-58 season. The Hawks managed to qualify for the playoffs, as they finished in third place in the Smythe Division. In the playoffs, the Black Hawks were quickly swept out in two games by the Boston Bruins in the NHL Preliminary Round. __TOC__
