Wally Middleton was a friend of Jack Duckworth's who took his beloved pigeons off his hands after daughter-in-law Lisa had given birth to Tommy and wife Vera insisted the birds go due to their alleged unhealthiness or she'd "wring their necks". A heartbroken Jack saw the birds put into Wally's van and driven off. Wally had no lines of dialogue, was uncredited and played by an unknown walk-on part actor.
