The Night of the Champions was started in April 2006 by the Christian Championship Wrestling as a free PPV type broadcast in an effort to gain more viewers. Viewers got to see top talent by CCW booking committee. First show was aired April 30, 2006 and continues today on a monthly free pay-per-view status. In 2006, Jerry Seltzer came up with an idea to gain viewers from the World Wrestling Entertainment. He decided to air a PPV caliber event for free on TBS. On April 30, 2006, the first Night of the Champions was aired. The first show was of PPV caliber and it made Hunter Jackson a star after he was defeated by World Heavyweight Champion Ice to a pinfall.
