Since its founding it has remained loyal to its socialist roots though it as toned down its extreme views on socialism. It has also abandoned its militarism stance. It was one of the first parties along with the Democratic Reform Party to support the introduction of the welfare state and many other services which were lacking for many years. It is still a extremely anti monarchist and colonialist party.
