On the night of the ball, Gargamel along with Azrael went there to act as a chaperon to the young wizards and witches attending it. Although he was supposed to be doing chores at home, Scruple secretly attended the ball as Brenda's date. Smurfette and some of her fellow Smurfs secretly watched over Brenda at the ball to give her encouragement, only to spot Gargamel and Scruple there...the latter of which turned out to be Brenda's date! The Smurfs went down to warn Brenda about Scruple, but were spotted by Gargamel and Azrael who chased after them. Scruple used Brenda's magic wand to make it appear that he would act as a hero to save her friends, but soon revealed that his only interest was in the wand and ended up fighting with Gargamel over it, who ended up taking it from him and using it
