After Sonic was zapped by Dr. Robotnik's Subatomic Slow Go Beam Weapon, the Sloth Family assisted Tails in his rescue. After the slow go weapon's power crystal broke, it worked in reverse, making individuals extra fast. Rocket accidentally used the ray on himself so Tails used it on the family so they would be fast enough to defeat Scratch and Grounder allowing Tails to save Sonic. Although the sloth family never officially made another appearance, their designs were often individually re-used as nameless background characters.
