A myelogram is a type of radiological procedure for detecting pathologies of the spine and spinal cord. Although it is rarely used today due to the development of CT scans and the MRI, it is still used in rare situations where those procedures are contra-indicated, or they have been performed on a patient with spinal pain that has found no results. In a myelogram, contrast is injected directly into the spinal column, usually through a lumbar puncture. The contrast spreads through the cerebro-spinal fluid and a series of X-rays are taken.
