The Sluagh are a class of malevolent spirit in Irish and Scottish folklore, believed to be the restless souls of individuals barred from all three afterlives (Heaven, Hell and the Otherworld) - thus these spirits would gather like a flock of birds and prey upon the living, always arriving from the West. Seen as troublesome and destructive the Sluagh would try and steal the dying souls of innocents to add to their mass, thus in days of old windows facing West were often closed to try and prevent the spirits abducting the souls of those on their deathbed. Called the underfolk by many, the sluagh (SLOO-ah) are often pariahs even among other fae. Though rumors persist of underground catacombs and mazelike lairs, many sluagh prefer crumbling Victorian mansions to dank sewers. Places dark and forgotten, often with a mushroom garden, attract them. Those who intrude into their inner sanctums often leave with nightmares. Just as they value secrets and mysteries, sluagh treasure their privacy, and do a great deal to foster reputations that discourage visitors. Sluagh is a novel by Thanfiction. The story is preceded by the novel Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness, and followed by the work-in-progress A Peccatis. The title is a reference to the Irish spirits of the restless dead. The novel is rated M.

The Sluagh are not to be confused with the similiar concept of the Unseelie Court, however they share similarities with the Wild Hunt.
