The Provisional Galactic Republic, also called the Galactic Republic—Ylesia, the Ylesia regime, or simply just the Galactic Republic, was a collaborationist government established by the Yuuzhan Vong upon their invasion of the galaxy. As early 25 ABY, the leaders of the Yuuzhan Vong Empire had begun establishing formations of galactic citizens who became volunteers in the Yuuzhan Vong military. Initially formed into the "Peace Brigade", the military force was reorganized the following year into the Galactic Collaborationist Army, and founded with it was the "Provisional Galactic Republic". This collaborationist regime was based on the planet of Ylesia at first, and later on Coruscant when it was captured by the Vong. The Vong leadership intended to use the provisional republic as a method of giving themselves more legitimacy, and theoretically, the Republic had control over the entire galaxy. Realistically, however, it only had "official" control of the sectors that the Yuuzhan Vong conquered; and even then, it's influence was little in most sectors. The regime was widely viewed as illegitimate, only being recognized by the Yuuzhan Vong Empire and the Ylesian Republic—which was itself a collaborationist regime established on Ylesia, led by Thracken Sal-Solo. It was led by the President of the Republic, a title held by a Human male named Varian Weylan. The head of government was the Prime Minister of the Republic, first held by the politician Karim Vor, and later by Syntha June. The puppet leaders of the regime did not have much real power beyond what their Yuuzhan Vong handlers allowed them to do, however, as the war's end was drawing closer (by early 28 ABY), the Vong gave the government more and more autonomy and freedoms, in order to mobilize more collaborators in the Empire's invasion of the galaxy. However, this did not change the course of the conflict, and by the end of it, thousands of collaborators defected to the New Republic. During it's reign, the Republic handled administrational matters in Vong-controlled territory, and was used a lot for propaganda efforts. It had a legislation—the Commissioners' Council. The judicial branch was nonexistent, as the Vong handled most of the judgements on criminals. The Republic also oversaw the organization of the slave forces of the Yuuzhan Vong, and took part in "recruiting" more slaves. During it's short existence, it also tried to reorganized sectors into larger "governorates", but this was largely meaningless as many of the new governorates only existed on paper. After the war ended, the collaborationist leadership was rounded up and executed.
