Star Chieftain is a chieftain-grade rank utilized by multiple Jiralhanae militaries. It was first put into use by the shattered Covenant in 2560 to denote high ranking Jiralhanae capable of commanding vessels of greater length than 1600 meters, primarily cruisers, battleships, and carriers. When the Covenant split into its New and Old namesakes in the late 2570’s, both sides retained the new rank of Star Chieftain along with many other ranks introduced simultaneously as said designation as part of the Second Covenant Mass Rearnament. Interestingly, the rank of Star Chieftain is shared by Jiralhanae who have only a few years of experience and those which are leading their respective navies.
