rdfs:comment
The defense system (or DS) of the subnet is located at and around the Edge. It is explored in Submachine 6: The Edge and in Submachine 10: The Exit. It was made by the Submachine itself during its constant evolution. It is one of two parts that make up the system, a computer program that maintains the Submachine acting as a body for the artificial intelligence S.H.I.V.A.. All locations on the Homeworld visited in-game are covered by the shield system, although large areas of Phazon growth seem to be left unprotected. It is unknown whether much of the rest of the planet is also shielded, or only critical areas. The defense systems protect the ship against destruction and increase the total structure. Each level completed increases the structure by 10%, thus making the ship more resilient. Therefore, it is recommended that this technology be researched as early as possible.
