Wenche Synnøve Myhre, popularly known as Wencke Myhre, is a Norwegian singer and actress. She began her music career at the age of 13 when she won a talent contest staged by a Norwegian newspaper after which she became the first artist to have three songs in the Top 10 at the same time and three years later secured her first film role. She attempted to represent her home country in 1964 and 1966 respectively but failed to be selected both times. However, two years later she decided to represent Germany and finished in 6th place overall. She made a second attempt to represent the country on home soil in 1983 alongside her son but failed to be selected and in the same year she was a backing singer for Jahn Teigen in the Norwegian national finals. When he won she was replaced as a backing singer by Anita Skorgan for the final in Munich. In 1986, she hosted the German national finals "Ein Lied für Bergen". She made two further attempts to represent her home country in 1992 and 2009 respectively but again failed to be selected on both occasions. However, in the latter year the country go on to win in Moscow, thanks to the song Fairytale by Alexander Rybak, which would become the highest scoring winning entry in the Contest's history until the record was broken at the 2016 Contest. She continues to perform as both a singer and actress and remains a popular figure in both Sweden and Norway.
