When editing an article how do you get the date but not the IP address

What are you even doing that this would be an issue? You can see the date of the last edit in the history of the article; just ignore the name of the user/editor. If you're trying to display the date of the last edit in the article itself, use {{REVISIONMONTH}} {{REVISIONDAY}} {{REVISIONYEAR}}. These are magic words that will automatically display the last time the article was edited, and will change when the article is next edited.
